Feel good and motivational

Jen Sincero came into my life at a time where I really needed her.

‘You are a badass’ gave me the kick up the butt that I was looking for as well as bucketloads of compassion, positive energy and unwavering faith that everything will be alright.

This book speaks about things that now I feel comfortable and confident saying myself without blushing or feeling ashamed to admit that YES! This is the life I want and I’m gonna go get it!

If you’re looking for a cheerleader, a pep talk or simply an easy and enjoyable read I really recommend you give this book a try!

If you enjoy her style of reading, I would suggest reading Jen Sincero’s ‘Your a badass’ sequels, specifically this one. ‘Badass Habits’ is a 21-day guide supporting you in building and cultivating meaningful habits.

I enjoyed this book not just because of Jen’s writing style but also because of the deep dive she takes into understanding which habits are important to you and her advice on how to figure that out.

If you’ve struggled with building habits in the past, this book might be a good one for you!

compassionate and insightful

WOW. THIS BOOK. WOW.

If you know me you know Brené Brown is my absolute hero. I am in absolute awe of this woman. Social worker, researcher, professor, author, speaker. Brené is a brilliant storyteller. She’s able to bring her insights from years of research to life in such a charismatic and genuine way. Not to mention the topics and focus of her work: vulnerability, shame and everything else wrapped in between.

‘Braving the Wilderness’ unwraps the concept of belonging; how do we reach out while cultivating a home within.

“True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are.” she says. This phrase motivates me constantly to continue on my ever evolving quest finding myself and help others do the same.

I can’t recommend this book enough.

I’m not gonna lie. This book made me cry.

The delicate balance between sharing insights from research, data collected over the years and the vulnerability that I felt in every word shared made this book a joy to read (and to listen to).

I can honestly say reading this book made me a better person. It made me come face to face with what I felt shame around and most importantly it helped me build my shame resilience. It has positively affected the way I connect with others and with myself.

It made me feel more courageous.

Science-y, research-y books

If you’ve heard of the concept of “growth mindset” you have Dr Carol Dweck to thank!

I her book ‘Mindset’ Dr Dweck walks us through decades of research and contextualises it to how we work, learn, live, and parent.

What does it mean to have a growth mindset? What happens when you don’t have one?

No spoilers! :)

If you’re struggling to move forward in life because you don’t feel “smart enough” or you keep thinking “there are people out there better suited than me” then this book is for you.

Angela Duckworth will give you the (research based) evidence you need to realise that being the smartest, “the best” at something is not the formula to success. Grit is.

With plenty of example and food for thought, this book is a great tool to have when faced with failure or setbacks to help you remember what really matters and how to move forward with confidence and well, GRIT

What an interesting read. Again a great one to better understand how we operate as human beings and how being aware of that can support us in building healthy and fulfilling lives.

Ever felt annoyed at someone for being overly positive? Ever felt you should be more positive?

When is it actually helpful to think positively?

‘Rethinking positive thinking’ is all about understanding how positive thinking affects us in different ways and we can use those insights to our advantage.

I loved the way ‘The nature fix’ connect body and mind as well as us with nature.

Deep diving into WHY nature makes us happier, inspired me to make real changes in my life, made me realise that feeling tired, unfocused, less creative were all symptoms of a lack of balance in my life. This book in a strange way, helped me set boundaries at work (nobody messes with my fresh air and walking breaks!) and become more aware and in tune with my surroundings.

Admittedly it’s a big book! I enjoyed the audio version a lot :)

Do you ever feel the pressure to know EVERYTHING? and have a strong opinion about ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING?

This book is here to back you up, to help you put curiosity and constant learning centre stage and give you the confidence (and pride) to say ‘I don’t know.’

Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know, will help you build the ‘intellectual and emotional muscle’ we need to stay curious, adapt, unlearn, and change.
